Custom Automatic Estate Gates for Carmel, Pebble Beach and the Monterey Peninsula

On the Peninsula, a gate is part of the home's architecture. We design each one to match the house, whether it's Spanish Revival, Mediterranean, Craftsman or modern. You can choose arched iron gates, iron-and-wood gates, or fully custom designs with hand-forged details. Homeowners, builders and architects bring us in early so the gate, pillars, lighting and access system are planned together.

Working With HOAs, Design Review and Your Architect

Many Peninsula communities and gated neighborhoods require design approval before a gate goes in. We provide drawings and specifications for your application, and we coordinate with your architect or builder on dimensions, finishes and power.

Gate Materials Built for Salt Air and Fog

Fog and salt air on the Monterey Peninsula corrode metal and electronics faster than inland conditions do. Your choice of material and finish makes the biggest difference in how long the gate looks good.

  • Steel / ornamental iron: Classic and solid, with the most design options. It needs a protective finish and regular care near the ocean.
  • Aluminum: Clean lines and lighter weight. It doesn't rust, so it suits oceanfront homes, and upkeep is low.
  • Iron and wood: Warm and private. The wood needs periodic sealing, and the iron frame needs a protective finish.

Automatic Gates for Salinas Valley Homes, Ranches and Businesses

Inland, the needs change. In Salinas, Prunedale, Castroville and Royal Oaks, we install wide driveway gates for rural homes, ranch gates for trucks and equipment, and heavy-duty slide gates for commercial yards and agricultural facilities. Commercial sites get operators rated for their traffic under the UL 325 classes: Class I is for residential use, Class II for commercial sites open to the public, and Classes III and IV for industrial and restricted-access locations.

Gate Operators and Access Control

We install gate operators and access systems from LiftMaster, DoorKing (DKS), Linear, Elite, FAAC, Viking, Apollo and AAS. For estates with guests, staff and deliveries, a telephone entry system lets you answer the gate and open it from your phone. Keypads, remotes, vehicle exit sensors and fire department access devices complete the system.

Swing or Slide?

Swing gates need level ground and room to open, and they need very little maintenance. Slide gates fit tighter setbacks and sloped lots in Carmel Valley and Corral de Tierra, but you have to keep the track clean.

Automatic Gate Repair and Maintenance in Monterey County

Fog brings moisture into control boxes, and that moisture corrodes connectors and circuit boards. Call us if your gate is slow, stops partway, reverses for no reason or ignores the remote. Our preventive maintenance program includes:

  • Inspecting hinges, bearings, wheels, brackets and tracks
  • Checking alignment on gate arms and slide gates
  • Sealing and cleaning control boxes, and clearing out insects and rodents
  • Adjusting limit and safety switches, timing and sensitivity
  • Checking hydraulic oil, lubrication, chain tension and drive belts
  • Testing electrical connections, the clutch and all safety devices

We honor all manufacturers' warranties.

Automatic Gate FAQs for Monterey County

  • What is the best gate material for a home near the ocean in Carmel or Pebble Beach?

Aluminum doesn't rust and holds up well in salt air. Ornamental iron offers more design options and a heavier feel, but near the coast it needs a protective finish and regular maintenance. We'll help you weigh the look, budget and upkeep.

  • Do I need approval to install a gate on the Monterey Peninsula?

Often, yes. Many cities, HOAs and gated communities on the Peninsula have design review. We supply drawings and specifications for your application and build to the approved design.

  • What is UL 325, and does my automatic gate need to meet it?

UL 325 is the safety standard for automatic gate operators. It requires entrapment protection such as photo eyes and edge sensors. Every new automatic gate we install is set up to meet it, and we can upgrade older gates that don't have these safety devices.

  • Can I open my gate from my phone?

Yes. A telephone entry system lets visitors call you from the gate and lets you open it remotely, which is useful for guests, staff and deliveries.

  • Do you work with architects and custom home builders?

Yes. Architects and contractors often bring us in during design so the gate, pillars, power and access control are planned with the rest of the project.

  • How often should a coastal automatic gate be serviced?

Every six months is a good schedule for gates near the ocean. Inland gates with light use can be serviced once a year.
